Creating a Dashboard Culture
Leaders must evangelize dashboards and establish dashboard behavior as an expected norm:
Not maintaining a dashboard needs to be seen as equivalent to not getting one’s work done.
Not checking a relevant dashboard before a discussion needs to be seen as equivalent to not reading material that was sent ahead of time.
Communications about issues should reference dashboards.
Every initiative and major activity should have a dashboard.
Have a “standard place” where all dashboards are linked to in the enterprise collaboration platform. For example, the top right of the main page of each initiative or activity.
Don’t create complex standards for dashboards: keep it simple so that anyone can create one quickly without having to learn a complicated set of rules.
For manually-maintained dashboards, use the enterprise collaboration platform - not a special dashboard tool.
For automatically maintained dashboards, use a standard tool and link to it from the enterprise collaboration platform.
